Overview

Paya Bay is many things to as many people. What follows below is an attempt to show some of the facets of this beautiful gem the Universe created.
Start With The Perfect Location
View of Paya Bay
Caribbean Travel and Life magazine says that "Undoubtedly, Paya Bay is the most beautiful location on the island." Our location on Roatan's uncrowded and largely undeveloped East End gives you precious privacy and lots of personal space.
Then, Add The Beaches
lil beachLil' Bay Beach . The jewel in Paya Bay's crown, this beach was recently voted one of the nicest private beaches in the world by a European magazine. big beachBig Beach . The third largest beach on the island. Three quarters of it is part of the Paya Bay property.
enchanted beachEnchanted Beach . This tiny private beach in the clothing optional area of the property is best appreciated for its natural, wild state.
The Coves
buccaneer landingBuccaneer Landing . Located in the clothing optional area, this beautiful cove is unlike anything you have ever experienced. Spectacular nature, a bridge over a swimming area, juvenile tropical fish, and beautiful contemporary cabanas. more > secret coveSecret Cove . One of the best places on the property (and some say in the world) to catch the sunset. The hamaca station is a great place to read or simply chill out as you listen to the waves crash on the rocks. more >.
The Nature Reserves
wetlands reserveWetlands Reserve . Nearly four acres in size, our Wetland Reserve is home to many species of aquatic birds. It is also a busy stopping area for migrating birds. virgin tropical garden reserveVirgin Tropical Garden Reserve . Virtually untouched and still in a very natural state, the Virgin Tropical Garden Reserve allows one to experience Roatan the way the Payan Indians did 500 years ago.
The Nature Paths
zen pathThe Zen Path . The Zen Path is very special. It runs along the cliff top from the rooms area to Lil' Bay Beach. It's the earth, the sky, the wind, and the sea all coming together in a beautiful symphony. If you are practicing awareness, the Universe will play its song for you. jogging pathCross-Training jogging/Walking Path . Part of the Paya Bay experience is "feeling good." One of the things that makes us feel good is exercise. Whether you walk or run, this beautiful path will assist in giving you your daily endorphin release.
path to secret covePath to Secret Cove . This path runs along the water's edge of the Virgin Tropical Garden Reserve. It can best be described as "intense nature." A beautiful natural garden on one side, the Caribbean on the other. Beauty, beauty... everywhere you look, beauty.
The Zones
swimsuits requiredZone 1 : Swimwear Area . Swimsuits required at all times. Fashionistas will be happy to know they can show off their latest Prada or DKNY swimsuits in this zone. This zone is also for the shier, more conservative crowd. topless (optional)Zone 2 : Topless (Optional) Area . Lil' Bay Beach is a topless (optional) beach for the ladies who want to ditch the restriction of bikini tops when on vacation. Note that during our designated naturist weeks, the beach becomes clothing optional.
clothing optionalZone 3 : Clothing Optional Area . Some people want total freedom from clothing. You can indulge in this level of freedom in our clothing optional areas which include Buccaneer Landing and Secret Cove. more >
The Reef
scuba divingScuba Diving . Through our partnership with Tropical Island Divers, Paya Bay offers the opportunity to scuba on the second largest barrier reef system on the planet. more > snorkelingSnorkeling . Snorkel from shore at Secret Cove and/or take the snorkel boat out to fantastic snorkeling sites twice a day. At Paya Bay snorkelers are treated like V.I.P.s. more >
Island Culture
garifunasThe Garifunas . Marooned on Roatan in 1797, the Garifunas were never enslaved or Christianized. As a result, they have kept a lot of their African culture, language, music, and religion. These proud people offer us a glimpse of the vibrant African culture that existed at the time of the colonization of the Americas. They perform a show featuring their music and dance on Thursday evenings at the resort. more > cholaThe Afro-Caribbeans . Similar culturally to Jamaicans, Roatan's Afro-Caribbeans have a distinct culture of their own. Chola's Roadside Bar right down the road from Paya Bay is a great place to have a beer with the locals and learn about their lives and history. Chola is a fountain of good energy herself.
The Sky
sunsetsSunsets . Whether you catch them at Buccaneer Landing, in a hamaca at Secret Cove (the best!), or from the main deck, sunsets at Paya Bay can be very beautiful events. night skyThe Night Sky . With very little light pollution in the surrounding area, the night sky at Paya Bay comes alive with starlight, the Milky Way, planets, meteors, and for a week every month, the full moon.
Paya Bay are all these things and so much more. We invite you to come find out what it is to you.
