If there is a place that approximates the concept of heaven, Pigeon Cay must come pretty close! Located on the South side of Barbaretta island, this cay is surrounded by a lagoon of crystal clear water that seems to come in every shade of blue. One side of the cay is large white-sand beach composed of fine crushed coral, while the other side is collection of coconut palms, trees and brush that provide shade and shelter for humans, and a home for the lizards and hermit crabs that are the sole inhabitants of this tiny little paradise. The snorkeling at Pigeon is without doubt some of the best in the Caribbean. The reef starts 15 to 20 feet from the beach and surrounds the entire cay. The ideal conditions for coral growth found here mean that the coral is very healthy and there is a huge of variety of species. There is also a lot of tropical fish life, giving the snorkeling an aquarium-like quality that is the dream of many a snorkeler. |
The trip to the cay from Paya Bay takes a little over an hour, but even getting there is fascinating as you will tour Roatan's beautiful sister islands of Santa Helena, Morat and Barbaretta, and pass through the longest natural mangrove canal in the Bay Islands. We offer the trip to Pigeon Cay as an optional excursion for our guests. We highly recommend it! If you book a Good Energy Experience, an included highlight of every experience is a day trip to this beautiful cay (and for our Naturist Good Energy Experience the Pigeon Cay trip is clothing optional!).
We honor the Universe's loving intention in giving us this beautiful place to enjoy by doing beach trash removal (plastic, etc.) on each trip. You are welcome to join in if you'd like.
