One of the first things you will notice soon after arriving at Paya Bay is the night sky. Located as we are, far way from any source of major light or air pollution, the night sky comes alive with stars, shooting stars, planets, and the Milky Way Galaxy. Gracefully observing all this beauty about her is our Moon, in all her multiple magical phases. The moon goddess, Ix Chel, ranked second highest in the Payan pantheon of gods. To please Ix Chel and gain her favor, the Payas planned their activities in accordance with the four distinct phases of the lunar month. The Dark Moon signaled a time for introspection and spiritual work. A Brightening Moon indicated the time to hunt and collect food from the forest, fish on the reefs, canoe, and otherwise be active. Bright Moons were times to celebrate love and kindle the activities of the moonlit night. The Darkening Moon indicated Ix Chel was disrobing, and so did the Payas. It's proven that people are better able to relax, feel good, and be happy when they are in the company of others they relate well to. One of our goals with our Moon Themes is to bring together people who share common interests yet come from different backgrounds. A group of like-minded people also has the potential for an explosion of good energy. And that, folks, is what it's all about.
