| 1. The Slide: An impressive
wall starting at 50 ft and descending to 120 ft. Eagle rays, and nurse sharks
frequent this wall as they pass along thru the deeper waters. The surface
interval here is almost as fun as the dive itself. |
2. Stingray Passage:
Here a stingray, there a stingray. They’re usually out and about around
this reef. They enjoy the “passage” which allows them to get
to the inside of the reef. The visibility here is great due to the nice
white sand bottom at a depth of 70 feet |
| 3. Milton's Reef: A beautiful reef
following the contour of a small wall. This site has a max depth of 70 feet. |
4. Milton's Caves: Located to the
west of Mitlon's Reef, these small caves abound with marine life and exploration.
Look for the large Green Morays hidden throughout the crevices. |
| 5. Pollitilly Wall West: One of our
classic dives, Pollitilly West has something for everyone. The sand flats
sit in 80 feet of water, however the wall starts at only 10 feet. |
6. Pollitilly Wall East: This site
is much akin to the western version, however has many more crevices in the
25 – 35 foot range to poke around in. |
| 7. Fuego Del Mar: One of our shallow
sites, Fuego del Mar is located on the inside of the reef. It has a max
depth of 25 feet but abounds with marine life. This is our divemaster Ven’s
favorite site because of the diverse nudibranchs and macro life he always
finds here. |
8. Dolphins Den: Our one site on
the “other” maps of Roatan diving. We try not to give our sites
away but this one was just too amazing to remain only ours. It is one of
the few sites where we have actually had dolphins swim up and around the
divers. With a max depth of 70 feet it is colorful and has impressive coral
structure. |
| 9. Verde Grande: This is our explorers
and photographers favorite. It is another site on the inside of the reef
with a max depth of 35 feet. This site features a tunnel that runs from
the inside of the reef to the outside. The tunnel is a traffic jam of silversides
and glassy eyed sweeper fish during the summer months. |
10. Yubu: This is a Garifuna word
for antique and this site is truly one of nature’s best creations.
Yubu is quintessential Caribbean diving. It has a nice wall starting at
10 feet and a max depth of 65 feet. This is the manager, Justin’s
favorite site. |
| 11. Aquarium: An extension of Yubu,
this site is slightly shallower with a max depth of 55 feet but has an extensive
array of fish life. |
12. Turtle Wall: This is one of our
deeper sites with a max depth of 115 feet. We tend to do it as a drift dive
when conditions allow. Our mooring here is in 40 feet of water but the deeper
wall starts just a few feet away. |
| 13. Hide and Seek: This is a maze
of canyons underwater, which allow for very nice exploration. The Flamingo
Tongues are found almost everywhere on this site also. The canyons are in
45 feet of water and the wall slopes down to a depth of 95 feet. |
14. Ben’s Dive: Named for one
of the first instructors from Punta Gorda, Ben’s dive is usually one
of our first dives. It has a great top area above the wall in 25 feet of
water to get comfortable in. The wall then gradually slopes down to a max
depth of 95 feet but the lobsters and fish always hang out here around 50
feet. |
| 15. Spyglass: This site is much akin
to Ben’s but has a slightly steeper wall. It is also closer to a channel,
which brings in more large marine life. Spyglass is our favorite site for
the deep dive during the Advanced Course as it bottoms out at 100 feet.
|
16. Mongoose: Our “regulars”
favorite site. Mongoose is on the inside of the reef but is a crevice that
runs straight through the reef to the outside. The rock formation in the
crevice is amazing. It feels like you are doing a dive on the moon. |
| 17. Punta Blanca Channel: This is
a Staff favorite as there are so many ways to lead the dive here. We begin
in 25 feet and work our way to 80 feet to explore the channel. The channel
has a large Eel Garden and plenty of stingrays. |
18. Gretchen’s Shell: This
is usually the spot to see the colorful Caribbean fish life. With a small
wall starting at 15 feet and a max depth of 60 feet it is a great site for
new divers. It is named for the beautiful shells, which lay in the sand
chutes. |
| 19. Church Wall: This dive is an
easy and relaxing dive. There is so much too see, we take this one nice
and slow. The max depth is 60 feet, but we tend to do this one around 40
feet. It’s “easy as a Sunday morning”. |
20. Diamond Rock: Although named
for the surrounding community, the guests love the mooring area since it
sits in a valley of boulders in 30 feet. The shallows of this site have
huge rocks that provide a great spot to search for nurse sharks. The wall
is all colors and teeming with marine life though. This site has a max depth
of 80 feet. |
| 21. Tutu’s Place: This site
does a great job of combining all of our sites unique features. The wall
bottoms out on a sand and coral bottom at 90 feet. But the soft corals and
sponges reach out to the divers with their vibrant colors in the 50-60 foot
range. |
22. McNab’s Pinnacles: Another
amazing site due to the topography. Magnificent pillars of collar stretch
up to the surface creating a canyon to swim through. As you make it out
of the canyons you enter a sand flat in 70 feet with a field of Garden Eels |
| 23. Camp Bay Reef: Located off the
longest beach in Roatan (uninhabited except for a small community). This
is the spot to find the toadfish and stonefish. There are great pockets
in the wall for these fish to hide out here. The sand bottom sits at 65
feet. |
24. Joe’s Place: A wonderful
drift dive, this site features fields of coral in the 60 foot depth range.
The wall slopes very gradually here, allowing for a vast area to explore.
